Introducing DOORwAY 44™

In a revolutionary new development, Doorway Technical Centre is able to offer heritage style panelled door assemblies with mandatory fire and smoke protection but coupled with outstanding sound reduction capability – up to 44 dB Rw

when evaluated in accordance with internationally recognised standards, yet still within a 44mm overall thickness and with a weight of only 66 kg.

Until now, particularly in the realm of sound reduction, a 44 dB Rw performance would require a bulky, unwieldy door leaf of up to 75mm in thickness with a weight in excess of 90kg.

Multiple Panelled Designs

While unquestionably attractive, aesthetically, panelled doors are notoriously poor in their qualities of fire resistance and performance as barriers to sound transmission  -  both being vitally important for apartment entrance doors, for example.  Essentially, the poor performance in both cases is due to the extremely thin sections that are associated with these designs, particularly around the edges of the panels, but often inherent over the whole area of the panels themselves.

Now, advanced DTC technology has enabled these weaknesses to be overcome, without affecting the aesthetics, resulting in highly attractive yet fully functional door designs, offering exceptional performance on all counts.

Technical Description

In the DTC panelled door designs*, fire resistance is imparted through the invisible incorporation of the unique  Palusol® SW Board¹  centrally in the construction. SW-Board has been comprehensively fire tested in accordance with the relevant British, European and American standards, in a wide range of heritage designs and configurations.

Smoke resistance comes from the highly respected Millmerran™ Kilargo™ or Athmer™ sealing systems  -  inconspicuous, low friction and exceptionally durable, while again delivering performance well within the mandatory requirements of Approved Document B and BS 9999.

*DTC panelled door designs patent no. 1907296.6.

Manufacture under licence

Joinery panelled doors are notoriously poor performers in terms of fire resistance and sound reduction.  We are therefore offering specialist joinery companies the opportunity to construct their own panelled door leaves and frames using our full test evidence under free licence.

This will give the ability to produce traditional panelled doors in many different designs using Millmerran / DTC technology enabling both fire protection and high-end sound reduction not previously possible, and without the need to engage in expensive testing.

Under licence the joinery companies will make the doors using DOORwAY 44™ components.  We will supply the fire and acoustic laminate to be embedded in the leaf construction, providing the major part of the technical performance, together with the tested fire/smoke/acoustic sealing systems for the perimeter of the door leaf.
